Roles of Bhutan Innovative Community

The following four roles are identified, as the role of Bhutan Innovative Community and will be governed under chapter 15, clauses 110, 111 and 112 of the Civil Society Act 2007

i. Develop Innovation Ideas and Demonstrate Pilot Projects:
Bhutan Innovative Community will develop new innovative ideas selecting particular places and specify in advance the length of time that will support the project and overcoming some of the shortcomings that CSO face in this respect. Bhutan Innovative Community will also implement pilot projects of new ideas and traditional practices that are being lost among younger generations.

ii. Facilitate Communication:
Bhutan Innovative Community will use interpersonal methods of communication, and study the right entry points whereby it can gain benefit for the community. Share and develop good and innovative ideas for project feasibility with the local community.
Bhutan Innovative Community will communicate at different levels of civil society and inform the capabilities, attitudes and cultural characteristics of people. Bhutan Innovative Community will facilitate communication and share information horizontally, networking between other organizations conducting similar work.

iii. Train and develop training materials
Bhutan Innovative Community will also develop training capacity and materials and use this to assist local government and communities in implementing their programs.
New university graduate will be trained in management and other skills that will be helpful to local communities and local government.

iv. Research, Monitoring and Evaluation:
Innovative activities will be carefully documented and shared with the local communities. Effective participatory monitoring systems will be shared among the Bhutanese Society as well as the project staff. Bhutan Innovative Community will provide skills in the following areas:

A. Participatory Action Research
- Identification of research problems
- Identification of different research tools and methods
- Data gathering
- Analysis of data
- Consultation with the community and validation of data

B. Documentation, Dissemination of Information
- Small group formation
- Clarification of values and vision
- Group dynamics – working with local communities
- Different kinds of media production
- Communication skills and visual aids
- Advocacy
- Networking and linkages

C. Training and developing skills through
- Training of Intern students
- Training of local communities
- Participant observation
- Organize Workshops and training through participatory methods
- Practice-Theory/Action-reflection
- Group discussion and synthesis, idea exchange and information
- Self-learning kits and modules

D. Develop skills in thematic areas
- Community
         o Indigenous Knowledge and preservation
         o Community and Poverty
         o Nature-based tourism
- Environmental Management
         o Air Pollution and its impact to health
         o Climate Change and mitigation/preparedness and adaptation
         o Renewable Energy/Energy Efficiency
- Natural Resources
        o Biodiversity species and habitat protection
        o Park Management and infrastructure improvement
        o Land Degradation and management for livelihood
        o Agriculture programs and promotion
